Reduce Food Service Ware Waste

You can allow customers to bring their own mugs and/or plates (Offer discounts for those who bring their own). You can use reusable dishes and cups instead of disposable ones for customers who leave a deposit. Also you can use organics recycling buckets at your booth to turn food waste into compost.

Recycling/Garbage Collection Containers

Plan for your own garbage and recycling containers. Don't bury it and don't leave it behind. There will be a large dumpster for your convenience but we still encourage you to take your own garbage home and dispose of it properly, if possible. G.O. (Green Okanogan) will be providing recycling and all recyclables can be deposited at the G.O. Kiosk.

What Are Compost Able Food Ware Products?

These are uncoated paper products, coated paper products, and some "bio-plastics" (made from corn, potato, and other plant materials).

What's Wrong with Polystyrene Foam?

Made from crude oil, it is non-renewable, non-biodegradable, and virtually non-recyclable. It ends up in landfills, waterways or the ocean. It breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces which are often mistaken for food and ingested by marine mammals, birds, and fish. Medical evidence also suggests that chemicals in poly-styrene foam are carcinogenic and may leach into food or drink.

Alternatives to Polystyrene Foam?

Uncoated paper, coated paper, cardboard, other plastics, aluminum foil food service ware, and "bio-plastics".
