We are working towards becoming a Zero Waste Event!
Okanogan Family Faire (O.F.F.) is working with Green Okanogan (GO) Recycling towards the ambitious goal of a waste-free faire! Our zero-waste strategy includes composting, recycling, and reducing single-use plastics, which can divert significant amounts of waste from landfills and minimize our impact on the land.
Campers - Pack it in, Pack it out!
Bring your own garbage bags and recycling containers. Don’t bury it, don’t burn it, don’t put it in the porta-potties and don’t leave it behind. Cigarette butts are one of the main things left behind – please bring a can for butt disposal and take it with you when you leave. Recycling collection baskets for aluminum, tin, #1 & #2 plastic, and cardboard will be located at all Hospitality Fire sites, the centrally located Doghouse/Drumming Circle and at the GO Recycling Center. Receptacles for food waste (no grease!) are located at the Drumming Circle and the Faire Kitchen. There will be volunteers at all these locations to help you get things in the right place. All garbage generated at your campsite needs to go home with you. It does not belong in our trash cans or dumpster. Consider this protocol when you plan and pack for your trip and minimize what you bring. Be sure to secure your load before leaving and don’t leave trash in neighboring towns or along highway. That is a sure way of getting our event permit revoked.
Enjoy your stay but remember to Leave No Trace!
Faire has potable water with water spigots throughout the site to encourage the use of reusable water bottles.
Food Vendors - Reduce Food Service Waste
Food vendors are required to use biodegradable food containers and eco-friendly serving products. These are uncoated paper products, coated paper products, and some ‘bioplastics’ (made from corn, potato, and other plant materials). This includes cups, plates, utensils, and carry-outs. No plastic or Styrofoam. You can allow customers to bring their own mugs and/or plates (offer discounts for those who bring their own). You can also use reusable dishes and cups instead of disposable ones for customers who leave a deposit. You are encouraged to have a bucket at your booth for collection of food waste. Receptacles for food waste (no grease!) will be located at the Drumming Circle and Faire Kitchen. Green Okanogan recycling containers for aluminum, tin, #1 & #2 plastics, and cardboard will be located at the centrally located Doghouse/Drumming Circle, all Hospitality Fire Sites and at the GO Recycling Center. Trash cans for customer use only will be available near food booths but food vendors are responsible for the garbage they generate in their booths. Bring your own trash can and pack your garbage out when you leave. Be sure to secure your load before leaving and don’t leave trash in neighboring towns or along highway. That is a sure way of getting our event permit revoked.
Remember to Pack it In, Pack it Out!
By working together and prioritizing sustainability, we can create a meaningful and memorable event while also protecting the land for future generations.
